Samsung Hands Out Limited-Edition Olympic-Themed Galaxy Note 8Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Not DIY Friendly Stay on target Samsung kicks off the annual device-reveal season with today’s unveiling of the Galaxy Note 8.Various leaks and teases have piqued consumer attention, which, frankly, is mainly focused on whether or not this handset will explode.All eyes will be on the new phablet, launching a year after the Note 7 made headlines when buyers reported the handset spontaneously combusting.Two recalls and a halt in production later, Samsung ultimately blamed the battery—which, according to iFixit, is “very, very similar” to the one glued into this year’s flagship Galaxy S8 and S8+.We’ll soon find out if the manufacturer has taken a different route for its next-generation Note.Early this month, serial leaker Evan Blass tweeted a glimpse of the upcoming smartphone, which looks like the love child of a late Note 7 and more recent Galaxy S8.Featuring the same wrap-around display and side buttons as the S8, Samsung’s new rectangular Note is expected to add an infinitesimal amount of screen coverage, and allegedly comes with a revamped dual camera setup—vertical, rather than horizontal.Specifics are still a bit murky, but Blass tipped a 6.3-inch display and the same Exynos 8895 and Snapdragon 835 chipsets as the Galaxy S8, plug 6GB of RAM.Samsung last week teased fans with a Galaxy Note 8 promo video, inviting folks to #DoWhatYouCant with the series’ defining feature: the S-Pen stylus.Today’s invite-only Galaxy Unpacked event begins at 11 a.m. ET in the Big Apple.
