Sea Shepherds Paul Watson launches Facebook campaign asking Costa Ricas Solís to

first_imgOcean conservationist and Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson, 63, started a social media campaign Monday asking followers to write to Costa Rica’s new president, Luis Guillermo Solís, and urge that an extradition request against Watson be dropped.“I was placed on the Interpol Red List by the very corrupt former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla whose administration saw the shark finners make huge profits with few arrests. Her administration also did nothing to prevent the death of Jairo Mora Sandoval who requested government protection months before he was murdered,” Watson wrote on his Facebook profile. “I am hopeful that President D. Luis Guillermo Solis will address both corruption and the illegal slaughter of turtles and sharks in Costa Rican waters.”Solís took office on May 8, but has not publicly commented on Watson’s case. His predecessor, Chinchilla, made no effort to hide her contempt of Watson and his comments, accusing the Sea Shepherd founder of harboring “disdain for the Costa Rican rule of law.” Chinchilla and officials in her administration have always referred to Costa Rica’s separation of powers when asked about the 12-year-old case of “attempted shipwrecking,” in which a Costa Rican fisherman injured a finger in an incident off the Guatemalan coast. In March, Chinchilla’s communications minister, Carlos Roverssi, blamed Watson and “leftist groups” for smearing “the good name of Costa Rica” in response to the country’s dramatic drop on 2014′s World’s Best Ethical Travel Destinations List. But Watson, who wants to work with the Costa Rican government on marine conservation policy, believes the new administration will be more receptive than the last one. And he hopes his army of social media followers will help spread the word.“I believe that President Solis has great potential to make a significant and positive difference in protecting marine diversity in Costa Rican waters,” Watson wrote. “I would like to request a favor of all on this facebook page to send a polite message to President Solis with a request that Costa Rica drops the extradition order demanding that I be brought to Costa Rica.“Sea Shepherd and I would like to return to helping protect the turtles and sharks in Costa Rican waters,” he added. To read the latest on the ongoing legal battle, click here.Recommended: Little has changed 1 year after slaying of Costa Rica conservationist Jairo Mora Related posts:Sea Shepherd’s Paul Watson turns to human rights commission to block Costa Rica’s legal chase Sea Shepherd’s Paul Watson back on Interpol website as Costa Rica fugitive Sea Shepherd’s R/V Martin Sheen lands in Costa Rica for 4-month research mission Sea Shepherd’s Paul Watson files human rights lawsuit against Costa Rica Facebook Commentslast_img read more

first_imgGo back to the e-newsletterSherwood Suites, one of the newest and plushest apartment-only properties in Ho Chi Minh City is positioned as a family favorite due to its spacious suites, child-friendly facilities and convenient location just next to the busy central district.Travelling to Vietnam’s southern hub with a family is becoming an increasingly popular option. According to Sherwood Suites GM Janet Fitzner, “Rooms in even the finest hotels in the city are often too small to fit multiple people comfortably, while the option of reserving an adjoining room only adds to the costs while failing to address a sense of separation. We offer a luxurious, spacious option ideally suited to families.”Ho Chi Minh City has numerous compelling attractions for adults and kids alike such as its fantastic food culture, an array of cultural sights and a general air of dynamism and charisma. It is also a logical hub for exploring Vietnam. Sherwood Suites is making it easier for families to experience these attributes in style and safety. The apartment-only arrangement at the property includes 157 suites varying from studios to one- and two-bedroom configurations and penthouses. Room sizes for the family start at a generous 81 square metres and extend to 118 square metres, making them perfect for families ranging between three and six persons.Other family-friendly features in the apartments include fully equipped kitchens ideal for rustling up snacks and meals, a washing machine and dryer to help keep on top of laundry and a living room with dining table where the family can share dinner or kick back and watch a movie on the flat-screen SMART television. All rooms feature elegant furniture from renowned brand B&B Italia, mattresses by Simmons of England as well as fully equipped kitchens, marble-lined bathrooms with bathtub, walk-in rainforest showers and premium toiletries, floor-to-ceiling windows and free access to high-speed Wi-Fi.While apartments are very much a home away from home, facilities at the property are the equal of any luxury hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. Five-star amenities include an outdoor covered pool, family size Jacuzzi, an international restaurant, a lobby and pool bar and an expansive 24-hour gym with sauna and steam room. Specific niceties for families, meanwhile, include a games’ room with billiards table and table football and a kids’ playroom.Another advantage of the property is its location in leafy District 3. One of the city’s most sought-after areas, it is distinguished by attractive French colonial villas and mature trees. It’s a peaceful alternative to the pulsing energy of the city’s central District 1, while remaining just a short hop away from downtown.“Instead of making compromises on space or spending double the money on an adjoining room at a luxury hotel, families can enjoy the space of a fully equipped apartment while enjoying the services and facilities of a five-star hotel,” adds Fitzner.Go back to the e-newsletterlast_img read more
